Rudyard A. Avila III

Rudyard A. Avila III practices in the area of health law and intellectual property law. He has held various positions in the public and private sectors, such as Undersecretary of the Department of Health, Corporate Secretary of the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation, Vice-President of Aetna Philippines, Chief of Staff of the Office of the Presiding Justice of the Court of Appeals and as legal counsel for the Philippine College of Surgeons, the Philippine College of Physicians, and the Rizal Medical Society. He acts as corporate secretary and general counsel of various corporate entities and major medical organizations.

Mr. Avila is a Professorial Lecturer at the College of Medicine of the University of the Philippines and the San Beda University and is the Head of the Section of Health Law of the U.P. College of Medicine. He is also a professorial lecturer at the U.P. College of Law where he has taught Constitutional Law, Political Law, Election Law, Credit Transactions and Obligations and Contracts. He has served as Dean of the Araullo University College of Law.

Mr. Avila is an active member of several legal and professional groups and has served as Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of the Integrated Bar of the Philippines and Chairperson of the Editorial Board of the Philippine Law Journal and other notable Medical and Law Journals. He regularly lectures for the Mandatory Continuing Legal Education Program (MCLE) of the IBP and the UP Law Center and is the author of books on Psychological Incapacity and Election Law as well as numerous legal articles in refereed and non refereed journals and publications.

Sonny is a licensed physician who finished his Degree in Medicine at the University of the East Ramon Magsaysay Memorial Medical Center in 1979. He then pursued a Degree in Law at the University of the Philippines and finished 9th in his graduating batch. He was admitted to the Philippine Bar in 1996.
